What does pardoning the turkey even mean? bad_juice November 26 2009, 14:48:38 UTC
How have I never heard of this?

Production values on daytime soaps have gone way up since the last time I saw any.

james franco's character is called "franco" apparently danschank November 26 2009, 17:03:56 UTC
(man, that makes me laugh every time i think about it.)

every year the president "pardons" a turkey. meaning that the turkey gets to live because the president of the u.s. mandates that it must be so. it usually involves a lot of obligatory laughter.

Oh I guess I have heard of that turkey thing bad_juice November 26 2009, 21:57:37 UTC
Too bad the reasoning behind GH appearance is less awesome than I figured it would be.

i love the weird tension. it's like three uniquely iconic people crammed together to be iconic together. it feels like something is going to explode.

Iggy's looking better than Madonna these days. That's an odd thing to think.

Also, much agreed on the "Freakanomics" thing. I'm glad people are finally calling time on those gimmicky knuckleheads.

i kinda dig madonna's crazy muscle-y-ness actually danschank November 27 2009, 20:52:35 UTC
man, the superfreakonomics thing irks me in a number of ways. first, it's all about this clever-hyperbole-is-better-than-real-arguments bullshit that's rampant nowadays (i'm looking at you christopher hitchens/camille paglia/sometimes armond white). and then there's the most obnoxious fraud going - the climate-change-is-a-religion argument. as if a few contrarians from the cato institute deliberately misreading 30 year old ecological reports constitutes some sort of insurrection. i mean, who stands to benefit from climate change being a reality? what's the conspiracy here? has the new world order struck a deal with al gore and power point? why do the black helicopters love bluefin tuna so much?

Off the top of my head during a blackout-level drinking binge to boot! I keep offering my service as a ringer to bar trivia groups, but maybe it's for the best!

no, not really. i actually haven't been gone so much as busy. doing a lot of computer related work for $$$, painting more, etc. i guess being around the house less has decreased my ljing. i still have fun blog ideas, but i rarely muster the enthusiasm to type them up. i should though.

(it's not like you've been around much either though!)
