Well, LJ, you're the first to know.

Come this time next year, I will not be in the U.S.A. At least, that's what I'm hoping for. I realized that there's never going to be a better time in my life to travel than now. I'm young, healthy (and getting healthier), unmarried, and have no kids. There is literally no reason I can't take my own gap year, so I'm going to.

Here are my top three ( Read more... )

I think you'd do well as an au pair as long as you don't mind being around kids. For some reason I always thought you didn't like them. Out of those options, though, I see you most vividly in Europe. You'll be fine with the language if you immerse yourself, plus you're good with languages anyway.

HOWEVER, you are ONLY allowed to do this if you stay in California long enough for me to sufficiently love on you when I move out there. (I don't know anything for sure yet, but I feel like I should say "when" instead of "if" to put the fates in my favor.)

I didn't realize what an au pair was so I change my vote to that. I think they're all good options though.

I would love to do something like that.

I think you would probably be much happier in Europe? Doing the Asia thing when you don't speak any Asian languages would be pretty isolating indeed (even if you're generally going to be on a compound where English is what people speak I imagine you might want to go into town to do stuff), plus I myself have heard not-so-nice things about the programs. And I dunno, doing hard labor on a farm in Australia, land of the poisonous everything...I'm not very helpful, I know. Maybe you can find something in Canada. Their milk comes in bags, you know.

I wrote a very large defense as to why I chose teach English in Asia. However, LJ ate it. I suggest you skype me sometime soon and we talk, please.

I chose Europe to Au Pair, but I have heard some good things about the Asia To Teach English programs. If you're interested in that, you should email Professor Burroughs. She has connections with a South Korea program, and I'm sure it's a legit program if she's involved.
