Name Change

Aug 15, 2006 08:42

I have to decide by noon on Thursday whether I'm going to change my name, and if I do, what I'm going to change it to.  That's when we're going to get the marriage license.  Shit I can't decide what to do, which is why I'm taking a poll on my livejournal.  You, faithful readers, will determine my future.  Please choose one of the following, or come ( Read more... )

I vote for option 4, or you could go a completely different route and change your names to Tango & Cash. I may just start calling you by these names, anyway.

You know, my own instinct to keep my own name if I ever get married comes not from a place of feminism or that ever popular 90s phenomena of "girl power", but stritcly from two facts: 1) I love the name Proffitt and 2) I've been Rachel Proffitt for 32 years now (and that reason just gets stronger every year, for obvious reasons) and I just plain feel like Rachel Proffitt. I know I may change my mind when I actually find that ellusive fucker who I could marry and be happy with and all that jazz, of course.
But, in the mean time, I'd say go with the one that feels like you. My favorite, however (and this is by FAR) is Taylerwin. I mean it. I think it sounds awesome.

I always thought that too. I love my name. It's easy. People can spell it. I feel like it's part of my identity. But I also think it would be nice and kind of fun to change my name. Then there's the whole what do we name the kids thing. Why does it have to be so controversial? Then my coworker said that her father-in-law says that women with hyphenated names = bitch. Nice.

Maybe I'll be Jessica Taylor de Erwin, Spanish style.

i say keep your own name. esp. since james is being a butt head and won't even entertain the idea of changing or combining names. james don't be a butt head! if and when i get married i'm keeping my last name, he can change his if he wants.

To be fair, he is not insisting I change my name. This is all me.

I just thought I should clarify because my post wasn't very fair to him, or at least not clear.

Make it my epitaph, why don't ya? "BELOVED HUSBAND, FATHER, KNEE-JERK NAYSAYING BUTTSNACK."

Alright, so I don't want to change my name. But let it be shouted from the mountaintop that I haven't once for one moment insisted or even hinted that Jessica should change hers.

PS- I call Tango.

It's true, when it comes to my name dilemma, James tells me, "do what you want." Which is nice. But it's also not helpful in making the decision.
