There is something wrong with the pronouns in that sentence.

Also, she didn't ask if you were the troubled one first. She first inquired if you were the one who dressed all in black. I have no idea how my mother knows who all of these people are, but she apparently listened in on way more of my phone conversations then I thought

Artistic license > Academic bullshit.

The first sentence is the quote, btw. The second sentence is just a fragment, attributing the source.

And you didn't mention the other stuff.
