SLOVENIA - Metal Festival (late July)

So, the day after returning from Paris, headed south to Slovenia for 4 or 5 days of chaos metal. Somewhere in the south of Austria (don't ask me, I wasn't navigating!), fueled by Ice cream, we commandeered a Pirate ship which then took us the rest of the journey to Tolmin, in the Slovenian Alps:

YAY for weekends! :)

Been a busy bee this week.... have been teaching like there's no tomorrow...will be glad when the little darlings' exams are over... I swear I spend half my time on the public transport system, or wandering around obscure streets and apartment blocks... So, there I found myself with a *whole* week free for Easter hols, so an hour after my (evil) history exam, I hopped on an overnight train to Eastern Europe, and travelled around Bulgaria + Romania (via Serbia and Hungary) for 10 or 11 days...Just happened to choose the time when these countries hit the news with floods....Luckily managed to avoid ( Read more... )

Seems that spring is finally here! yay! The snow in the inner city has all gone, though it's still around in the outskirts. So, last photos with snow and ice! They're two weeks old, as little laptop went off to France to sort out a few 'issues' it had. As a side-note, I am getting damned good at power walking through snow and snow-slush. Out in the 23rd district, there is a lump of long-frozen ice (cleared snow) in the middle of a very small car park, that is about about the size of an estate car...

Friday was the first day of 2006 that I didnt see any snow, and silly me thought spring was coming. But no, one more everything is white and wintry. Its like I'm stuck in the land of Narnia, where the summer never comes until the land is freed of its evil queen. Not that I'm complaining, mind, I hate summer! :)

As Saturday was overcast, I waited til today to return to my little island :) It snowed overnight, so I was able to walk across the Alte Donau (this photo)without [too] much fear of slipping on ice :)If you look carefully in the centre of the photo you can see the word 'Vienna' written in a heart on the ice :)
