It appears LiveJournal is redirecting outbound links through an affiliate that automatically replaces referral codes (for, say, commissions on sold items) with their own. It also breaks certain unrelated links due to sloppy coding. As much as I like all of you, Dreamwidth is looking better and better.

I don't use that kind of stuff on my journals here, but wouldn't that hurt their own ad income?

They fixed it. I just downloaded the offending .js and it only contains:
/* this code is removed until we can get it off all our pages */

I think someone did a really quick backpedal there...

I get the feeling they signed on with a service that was less trustworthy than they'd expected. Seems to be an epidemic. DeviantArt has been having trouble this week with one of its ad affiliates serving malware with their ads.
