Sleep patterns.

So...

12 hours awake and I sleep for about 12 hours.

20 hours awake and after 6 hours of sleep my body goes "You're awake. Get up and do stuff!"

It's like it doesn't want a coherent sleep cycle.

Well, you know my sleep cycle. Sleep lots & lots (i.e. over 8hrs) or 4hrs... :P

And, no, your body doesn't... :P

Well the whole 'cycle' thing means it has to be consistent.

If you usually wake up at, say, noon then your body will invariably try and wake you up at noon, whether you went to bed at 6am or midnight.

If you want an actual sleep cycle try a few weeks of going to sleep at the same time every night. Preferably with an alarm to wake you up after 8 hrs.

The thing is it tends to one of two cycles.

The good one which is has me crashing hard in the mid-evening where I will wake up around 4am and be wide awake without fail.

And the bad one where I don't really get tired and generally drift off in the wee hours of the morning and will then have to exert willpower to get out of bed before 3pm.

I also have two cycles: bed at 11ish to wake at 11ish, and bed at 3am to wake at 9am. Yours, at least, seem to be roughly the same length. So I wonder if it's to do with the number of hours in your natural cycle ( ... )

I'm sure I've heard one way of reseting your sleep cycle is the 'very long period awake then once you've slept that off force your cycle into one you want' type way, but I think I heard that 10min power naps can help you too.
