So this year, I tried to do some homemade gifts under the (apparently mistaken) assumption that overall it'd cost me less. Still the gifts went over well. Everyone who got a recipe book immediately flipped through it and marked recipes to try.

As a side note, could you give Janet a call sometime, she accidentally called me the other day and it sounds like she really needs a friend right now. I have told her I will call her regularly, and she said she will call back, but I think she could really use someone close by who could drop by and just give her a hug now and then.

They're kinda strapped right now too, so I was thinking about buying $20-30 worth of cheap staple foods (pastas, rice, canned goods, etc.) to bring over, since it'd probably help them out. Get as much volume as possible for the money, sort of thing. I've done that before for friends in need, and it's always been appreciated. I'm just a little concerned that if I do that, Janet will break down and have a crying fit on the spot. She really is on an emotional edge.
