The cynical side of me is trying very hard to not to snicker at the school-girl style giddiness that Obama groupies are feeling today.

But as much as I have to roll my eyes at all the Obama-gasms, I have to admit that it is cool to finally see a leader emerge that people can get excited about.   I hope he does good things with his new mandate....I ( Read more... )

Cautious optimism... tricstmr November 5 2008, 18:16:29 UTC
.. is the way to go for all of us.. And I think Obama's speech conveyed that last night.

He basically said, "This is not the end, this is the beginning, and it's gonna be way fucking harder now--now we actually have to solve these huge fucking problems.. but WE CAN DO IT together..."

Which is a good sentiment..

Do I expect that you will like his policies? No.. but I expect them to be a lot more pragmatic than previous democrats... He is, after all, a Midwestern Liberal--and they are way more pragmatic than East Coast ones..

I totally agree with this.

His speech wasn't a candy-coated one, it was honest. He didn't promise anything except for the fact that good things will come with hard work and time. What he did promise was that we could have hope again and that something substantial will really happen this time IF..we work together.

To me this is inspiring because maybe this will show some people that voting nationally AND locally (which affects us all a LOT more) is important, and because of that we can try and hold everyone to a higher standard.

Motivation is the key here. Under Bush it stagnated and the boulder came to a halt. It's moving again though, and maybe it'll bring about some better days than people expect, so I'm in too, but with the aforementioned cautious optimism.

I agree. I'm too cynical to celebrate, but he's got to be better than McCain. At least I hope so.
