An interview with series director Yoshio Sakamoto delves into the story and clarifies plot elements from the trailer. Set between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion, Other M will involve Samus's commanding officer, Adam Malkovich, who dies sometime prior to Fusion. The new character who asks "Remember me?" is one of Adam's soldiers. The female at the end of the trailer is not Samus, but a "very, very important character."
