Jun 23, 2009 22:03

So I think we all know what Guitar Hero and Rock Band are at this point. These video games have taken the world by storm by allowing people of ages to immerse themselves in a world of music by playing fake guitars and drums. It's supposed to be fun, entertaining, and even allow people to find new music they never heard before. Widening horizons and ( Read more... )

Now that I have read your post I agree with your point. So dude talks smack then has a song in the game. Any way I have a love/hate relationship with Jack White love his music but he's a douche.

Hmm. I can see your point in calling him a hypocrite but he also has a point in saying that kids should be able to find music in other sources besides music but like you said where exactly. Perhaps he means the lack of music programs in school or maybe the failing of cultural interests in our society. All in all I can see both sides to the argument.

Fine. I feel as though Jack White knows more about the music industry but you're the consumer so you would know where to find music. There's my side.

You want to expand your music knowledge, just go to Pandora and let it play. You will stumble into a new experience probably every other song. Guitar Hero sucks as does Rock Band. I'm all for kid's having fun, but people swear by these games as if they were Jimmy Page, or in this case Jack White.

When this whole Guitar Hero craze began I was naive enough to think that people would not think they were awesome musicians because of a game. A quick look on Youtube pretty much squashed all that. Music is driven by commercialism more and more everyday. If your song ain't in a commercial, it's not worth listening to. So yeah, kids can go on Pandora and discover new music, unfortunately, kids these days are too lazy to even do that.

If kids are too lazy to go and find themselves some good music, well fuck them. I mean it's bad enough that in this day in age you can find ANYTHING in the internet. Now if your too damn lazy to actually search well that's too bad.

Easier said than done. Musicians want to get their music out there, but they also want to make money. You can't sit there and wait for some 13 year old kid to find you on the internet, you gotta take the music to them.

I understand your argument... But I will say this.. My husband is a Guitar Instructor, has been playing for well over 12 years, very talented. He gets SO many kids coming in for their first lesson saying that they play Guitar Hero all the time, and boast about how GREAT they are... They get their parents to spend a small fortune in equipment, and start up lessons.. and once they realize it's actually going to take time to learn how to play the instrument, that it's NOT like the game, they shortly thereafter quit. THAT is really sad. Exposure to music the kids wouldnt normally get is great. It's just pathetic when these kids, and moreso, their parents, think that it's actually a display of talent in a "musical" field.. when, like you said, it's merely a video game. I've played rockband, it was fun, but I dont think I can play drums after one session, no matter how good a rating I got from the video crowd... I love the episode of Southpark "Guitar Queer-O".

That's unfortunate. But I have to believe there is at least one kid that stays and actually learns the craft. If not, well there is a bigger problem present than I thought.
