Another Pink Slip

I got a pink slip this weekend and it annoyed me a lot. I am not going to be fired, this is just FUSD's way of covering themselves so that they are not locked into anything. I wrote my principal a letter that contained the following

Oh, man. I hate the whole political climate right now. It seems sick that our president is TRYING to find ways to spend an enormous defense over budget while we're closing schools and laying off teachers. What the f#$% kind of world is this, anyway? The most recent bit of news to piss me off: No extension of unemployment because Bush says the economy is recovering fine w/out it. Uh, huh. Maybe if your a spoiled little rich son of a wealthy oil magnate it's getting better...but for those of us on the ground...ACK!!!

This is actually a California budget thing and it isn't as bad as it was last year. My principal told me the other day that he was shocked I even got a "notification of potential layoff" and that I won't be laid off...

Sorry to hear about that Charlie. It sucks. I think the political climate sucks right now and good teachers are discouraged because of crap like this. I'm sure it will work out well for you, but I know how bad it must suck.

It's true. I do think that teachers get discouraged because of crap like this--I have a friend at Bullard who will be laid off this year for the second year in a row. She'll have to be re-hired, which means that she loses health benefits between June and September (for her and her family) and doesn't "advance" to the next level of seniority. Fortunately, I was hired a year ahead of her and I'm all right as far as seniority goes--I should have tenure by the beginning of next year...
