Coming back from facebook

May 24, 2010 08:40

I resisted using facebook for a long time, but so many of my friends were using it that I decided to give it a go. The really addicting and cool thing about it is that "everybody" seems to be on it, and I've gotten back in touch with several old friends that I haven't seen in decades. It's posting character limit is designed for quick posts, which ( Read more... )

It turns out the right-wing nutjob knew me in high school. I told him thanks, but no thanks. If I don't even remember your name, we need to have more in common than . . . nothing.

I always take out the yearbooks. If I don't recognize the name OR the face, I just hit ignore.

I hit ignore the first time, especially after looking at his wall. Then he sent another request right after that, with the same "hi david". I guess other people have different standards than I do.

Ah Facebook... yes, great for short usually meaningless comments about life. I find that people (generally my older sister) will post something totally stupid and unintelligent in reply (usually missing the point of what I was saying in the first place), or not reply at all.

I think most people experience the random-people-out-of-the-woodwork thing. I certainly have. I actually did the unthinkable and *gasp* unfriended people!

It is funny - among my LJ friends, there seems to be a movement to come back here, myself included.

The meaningless reply is what you get for posting something meaningful on FB.

Unfriending was going to happen a lot more if I didn't find out how to block games. I have unfriended on out-of-the-woodwork people, and I'll probably unfriend a couple others that I just don't care about.

There hasn't been anybody I've wanted to unfriend, but quite a few have become "hidden." They didn't do anything to offend me, but they never posted anything of interest either.

Yeah, my unfriending has been along the same lines. And LOTS of people are hidden. I'm just not interested in the newest isn't-Sarah-Palin-awesome stuff. :P

Welcome back! I was pretty much forced to join Facebook by my family as well. It's good for some things, but I still prefer LJ -- even if I rarely make an original post.
