You're such a darling, Tracey. No wonder I love you. :) We're prepared.. we can deal with this, and for myself, I'll do whatever it takes to keep him healthy and happy. Thank you so much for your intuitive understanding.

awww look at that photo of bragi! what a cutie :)
i'm so sorry to hear about all of this -
it's so scary!
by chance, do you give him any products
for fleas? my parents' dog had seizures
(and he was only about 2-3 years old) and unfortunately and sadly, Gunther died. the vet said it was probably from the flea crap they used. if you want more info i can get it.
i really really hope bragi is going to be ok!!
love, jen

He is adorable, ain't he? =D They love him at the hospital. We don't, in fact, use any flea products on any of the animals. We got invaded by fleas for a short time last summer, after the cedar trees were removed from the back yard (they blew down, but even dead acted as a natural repellant to the fleas in the yard behind us.) When that happened, we got flea collars for everyone until it blew over --the flease never settled in our house, and we haven't seen them since last summer. The new family behind us doesn't have any animals (except all the kids) so the fleas apparently moved away, or have gone dormant. At any rate, none of the animals has had even a flea collar since last winter, when we finally felt safe enough to remove them. I'm really sorry to hear about Gunther.. that's a terrible thing to have happen. Now I'm REALLY glad we're so paranoid about flea powders and that other crap they're pushing. There's this product called Advantage that's supposed to repel flease for many months with just one application.. but we ( ... )

He looks so sweet! I've got no advice, it sounds like you have a great hospital there. You guys are in my thoughts, I know it'd break my heart if that happened to my girl. Hell, it was hard to read about your guy.

*hugs*

Just thinking of Bragi today, and hoping things are going ok. I know the phenobarb is making him a bit unsteady, and hopefully you all will find a low dose that keeps him comfortable and seizure-free. Anxious to hear the results of the liver panels too. Seizures are so tough to deal with....it's most often a question of trying to rule out what it ISN'T ( ... )

He's less drunk today than he was last night, after dosing. I'm hoping this trend will continue, and I'll be able to let him walk through the house without an escort to guard against bumps. :D

We should get the test results from the liver and spinal fluid today. I'll keep everyone posted.

Tracey, in about a two-hour period last night, he ate: two cans of tuna, two large sausages, two cans of chicken meat, a few bites of our dinner, and about a cup and a half of dry dog food.. he hasn't gone poop *yet*. Is this normal? I realize he hadn't eaten for almost three days, but is there something I need to be terribly concerned about, or do? He farted a few minutes ago, but no poop, and we've been outside twice.

While we were out there, the damned pack of dogs next door did their level best to incite him to riot. He just looked at them from a distance. Is phenobarbitol a mellow-me-out drug?

oh yeah, phenobarb will mellow him a bit, and he's been through a lot and needs his rest anyway.

I'd try to get him back to his normal diet when you can....would back off on things like sausages, don't want to get his pancreas in an uproar on top of everything, or give him diarrhea. Maybe cook some chicken or ground beef, see if he'll eat that with his kibble?

I'm sure they probably had him on an iv at the hospital, so even if he wasn't eating, he was getting nutrition. But, he'd be pretty empty, so just give everything a chance to work its way through. But a few small meals are good if he'll eat them.

Poor guy.

Oh shit...I'm SO sorry that Bragi is having to go through this! (You and Frank, too.) How soon until you get the blood screens back? You'll all be in my thoughts...

We get them back today, Dawn. Unfortunately, I don't know when. I'll journal the results. Frank and I are alright, if a little short on sleep. Bragi's better... his eyes aren't bloodshot anymore, and he's getting up and down the stairs easier. He's a little less drunk, too, and much more focused and engaged. More like my brilliant omega-of-the-pack, and less like a dumb animal struggling for survival. He wouldn't eat in the hospital, and didn't sleep much. Three days. *sigh* That poor baby.

Well, DAMN, that sucks. I am glad you posted, if for no other reason than support. Sucks when your kids are sick. (I should follow my own advice). Good to see you, and I hope that all is well besides the doggie boy.
