Changing the Game

She's fucking tired of it. Her first 43 years on the planet might have been spent deferring to her big sister in all matters of everything, down to the prom date Jenny had wanted, but in the last year, she's grown a backbone. Yes, she's hemmed and hawed about calling her sister and confronting her. Jenny's heart was broken in an embarrassingly ( Read more... )

Jen hears the door but she's thinking about ignoring it, regardless of who it is. Noemi is out buying groceries for dinner tonight and God only knows what Alex is getting into, which leaves her to get the door. She'd really rather just stay in bed. She's feeling horribly sick this morning (is it still morning?) after being awake horribly late(early) last night. It's all related, she suspects ( ... )

For a long moment, Heather stares at her sister. She takes in the tank top and shorts, the messed up hair, even the scar. There's a thought that floats through her mind - that the Jenny she knew would never let herself look like this. But, that is exactly the point, the Jenny she knew never let anyone in. This is about as real and honest as Jenny has ever looked. There's a part of her that wants to just launch into a lengthy diatribe about how it never should have come to this point and how they are better than this. Instead, she simply says, "Hey."

"Heather," Jen says, almost sounding bewildered for a moment, but then, she's still half asleep, "hi." She looks back at Heather, whom Jen knows is checking her out, and then looks down at herself. "I was still sleeping," she adds without really knowing why. It's not an excuse, because she was, but it still feels like justifying. "I haven't even had coffee yet," she adds again, but moves out of the doorway to let Heather inside. That would explain why the door hasn't been slammed yet.

Heather steps inside, still amazed that Jenny hasn't thrown her out, but she'll take what she can get. She also forces herself to not look around the townhouse but instead keeps her eyes on her sister. "You're allowed to sleep you know." What she doesn't say is that with James all she wanted to do was sleep.

Alex came wandering down the stairs in his pajama pants and t-shirt pushing at his hair with his fingers. He wanted his hair a little in order but he kept almost smacking himself in the head with his cast. He wished he had his prosthetic arm on but he had troubles with getting it set up with his cast on.

On Jenny's orders, Heather is waiting. She'd really rather have left, or at least met with them together, but right now Jenny is still in control. Heather gained some measure of control by showing up, but that's it. So she waits to meet Alex.

Alex made his way to Heather not really sure how this was going to go. He'd rather have Jen there with him as well.

To keep herself busy, Heather washed the coffee mugs. When Alex enters the kitchen she turns and looks at him. Her first impression of him is still in her mind but she forces it away as best she can. This man is good for her sister and she has no reason to not trust him. Not yet.
