Right now my only computer is a 4-year-old laptop, and I'm getting pretty fed-up with its crappiness. I want to buy a new, decently-powerful desktop PC. Can anyone recommend a website to get one from? I figure there's gotta be a better place than Dell.

Get a Mac! The iMac G5 got updated pretty recently and is a very solid all-in-one. Buuuut, I *guess* you still need a PC for your work-related stuff :(

Macs seem cool, but I'd prefer for my desktop to be a PC. I'll probably get a Mac laptop eventually.

you could try newegg.com, they usually have fairly good deals and are fast with shipping and replacing things that don't work.

Why don't you build one?
Then you don't have to pay for shipping, have a new project and can customize it without paying outrageous prices. When I built mine I went to a computer fair...but you could also go to random pc stores and look for parts. :D

I was thinking about building one, but I decided I'm just too lazy for that =P

On a high end computer ($2k+) you can save 400-600 by building it yourself over having it assembled in the 'factory' or whatever.

Oh, and newegg.com is a good suggestion. I copied a $1500 dell computer's parts out of a catelog on newegg, and even replaced the 2.4ghz p4 with an athlon64 3200, and ATI Radeon 300x with a geforce4, and I came out at about $970. (However, I also replaced the 17'' LCD that comes with the dell with a 19'' CRT, but space isn't really an issue, so I don't see why I would need a flat screen)
