Physical Description: A tall, dark-haired Caucasian man with pale blue eyes, Jason appears to be in his mid twenties; he is in fact twenty-two. He's wide-shouldered and six feet tall with the muscle to go along with it, but he walks lightly, and exhibits both quickness and alertness. His style varies to fit the situation, but there is a definite James Dean vibe going on a lot of the time, given the simple t-shirts and the leather jacket and jeans. He tends toward dark colors and sometimes blue, with little to no ornamentation.
Sexuality: On the Kinsey scale, Jason is about a 2 and considers himself straight. That said, he isn't shy or self-conscious, and it's difficult to make him uncomfortable sexually. Gay chicken does not work on him. He himself has only had one serious relationship as an adult, and that was with Talia, who he knows was, to a significant degree, using him. Consequently he does desire to be genuinely close to someone, but it's difficult as hell to so much as broach the subject. If he were in what he considered a serious relationship, he would be inclined to act in a monogamous fashion. If the relationship were not "serious," though, or was in some way "off," as with Talia, he wouldn't expect his partner to be monogamous, nor would he act that way himself. His first actual sexual experience was a one night encounter with a fellow student of a silat master they were learning from, and he never saw her again. So a lot of his sexuality is to a degree opportunistic and wary. He doesn't expect to form relationships, at least not easily, and that does open him up to certain behaviors that he thinks of as experimental or temporary and not an integral part of his core sexuality. The fact is, though, he's not strongly averse to other guys in a purely sexual sense it's just everything else, the inability to trust, the potential power dynamics. If he doesn't KNOW his partner and doesn't intend to know them, then the power dynamics aren't as important, and there isn't any trust involved. So basically he can't fuck anybody he knows well without some kind of serious, trusting relationship forming first. And that ain't gonna happen.
History:
Wikipedia entry. His canon would be technically called "post-Infinite Crisis, pre-Reboot" but that is just stupid sounding, not to mention fucking confusing if you don't know DC comics very well. Or even if you do, quite frankly. But basically, this Jason was the one who was born poor, who tried to steal the tires off of Batman's car, who has always had black hair and a bad attitude, and eventually died at the Joker's hand, then came back to life six months later due to a Stupid Plot Device. He is taken from right before "Battle for the Cowl," with an additional 1.5 years of game canon at
capeandcowl, during which he made some friends; chopped off the Joker's limbs and tried to keep his limbless, drugged up body hidden somewhere in the city in response to the Joker killing his friend Danny Rand and the whole "people coming back from death repeatedly" thing; went through a plot where Tim was briefly evil and briefly allied with him but then got super mad because Tim tortured Danny; was also attacked and skewered by Dick, who had been brainwashed by Slade; founded a sort of reckless mercenary group whose purpose was basically to go places and upset the power of balance by killing hordes of horrible people; started (accidentally) mentoring Carrie Kelly; and got into a relationship with Miho from Sin City.
Powers: surviving explosions and long falls??? NONE REALLY
Talents/Abilities: An expert combatant, Jason is versed in several forms of martial arts, and is especially influenced by
kuntao silat. His reflexes, stamina, and endurance are comparable, perhaps even superior to an Olympic athlete's. He routinely uses high-level civilian and military-grade weaponry, including firearms, explosives, rocket launchers, advanced computer equipment, and gadgetry. A gifted marksman, he is also trained in stealth and disguise. Given sufficient time and resources, he has a decent sense of strategy, and can turn a city into a battlefield of traps.
His favored hand-to-hand weapon is a dagger which resembles a kris and can cut through body armor; it is apparently so sharp that he manages to stab Onyx (a reformed former member of the League of Assassins, who Batman allows to operate in Gotham for a period before DC completely forgets she exists) in the shoulder with it without her noticing right away. In terms of skill, he is shown being able to hold his own with Nightwing and Batman (though he inevitably loses). Along with the kris, he carries at least three modified glocks with him in shoulder holsters.
Personality: Jason Todd is an anti-hero of a contrary nature, possessing a perverse sense of humor. He's ruthless and violent, but we also see a part of him that greatly desires allies - somebody to understand the quest he's on, whether it's reaching out to Donna Troy, Mia, or even Tim, who he once beat up rather badly. Though strong and determined, he can also have moments of emotion that distract or undo him. It's speculative canon that being dunked in the Lazarus Pit (while Ra's al Ghul was sitting in it, even) may have adversely affected his sanity. Certainly, as Robin, Jason had what is persistently referred to as a "mean streak," but as a young adult, it seems to border sociopathic at times. However, Jason has a strong sense of what's morally right and wrong... it's just not the conventional sense of what's morally right and wrong. He won't abide murderers and rapists (despite the fact he himself has killed quite a few people, but he would tell you that they're all justified), and he'll use drug dealers to influence the underground as long as they don't sell to kids.
While his characterization suffers from inconsistent writing, it seems that Jason is depicted, prior to Lost Days (a miniseries detailing some of his exploits directly after his resurrection) in the following ways: a) an intelligent, dangerous opponent who isn't afraid to kill to accomplish his goals but ultimately only wants Bruce to kill the Joker b) an unstable, jealous young man who carefully makes sure the Titans cannot interfere while he confronts Tim, though in the end he develops a grudging respect for him c) an embittered and brutal vigilante who enjoys messing with his "older brother" and is apparently not phased by sprouting tentacles or eating people d) a grumpy, violent individual who is nonetheless capable of empathizing with and being romantically interested in Donna Troy e) a total nutbag. In my interpretation, Jason is still capable of all these things, but he must be pushed a lot before he achieves fucknuts crazy status. His general demeanor defaults to alternately grumpy and mocking, a blend of Under the Hood Jason and Countdown Jason.
Lost Days covers an ambiguous amount of time from his resurrection six months after his death at sixteen to about nineteen years of age. The greatest addition it makes in terms of Jason's personality is the exploration of Jason's moral boundaries. After he poisons Egon (his assassin instructor) because he'd been trafficking in children sex slaves, he calmly drops the kids off at an embassy, then returns to burn the whole place down, Egon included. He and Talia have this conversation about it (important parts bolded): TALIA: This is an odd turn. I find you a teacher, and you murder him.
JASON: "Murder" sounds a bit fancy. I didn't orchestrate whacking him over an inheritance. I spiked his bug juice because he was a dirtbag. He was a killer for hire who made more money on a single job than most people in the world will see in their lifetime. But he still thought he needed extra cash, so he kidnapped children and sold them as sex toys.
TALIA: Why not just walk away and call the authorities?
JASON: I heard stuff. He had connections to the cops. Had a few politicians who he did work for. He wasn't gonna get locked up. But he was greedy. No lieutenants. Just muscle. The operation went through him. So, if it was going to end, it had to end with him. I didn't "murder" him. You murder people. I... put this reptile down. Don't tell me the world isn't better off.
He goes on to kill a few more of his teachers (after they've taught him enough, of course): his surveillance instructor was a pedophile, the small arms expert sold bad drugs, his close combat master was planning on killing her husband and children, and the mercenaries he may or may not have been learning from were "scum." He shows no remorse for any of their deaths, or for beating up his demolitions teacher Shurik barely a day after he'd been amiably drinking with him. Nor does he give a crap about the Russian mobsters he manages to kill while in London. But all these deaths are tempered by his use of the code. He doesn't kill the helicopter pilot even though he's a mercenary because he's "just the driver." He kills the Russian mobsters only after he spends all day gathering and disarming the bombs they planted in a bid to make English security focus on a fake middle eastern threat, and then only because they attack him.
It should be noted that by the end of his training, however, he seems to have (selectively) changed his mind. Telling Talia about how he had the Joker at his mercy, but chose not to kill him, Jason says (important part bolded): "He would've been dead. A quick, agonizing death. And this world would have been a much better place for it. But I don't really give a crap about the world." It's at this point that his emotions, or rather, his desire to force Bruce to confront his decision not to kill the Joker, takes precedence over the code. His plan to make Bruce choose him did not work, and that really, truly hurt him. After Bruce banked the batarang off the pipe and slit Jason's throat, the Joker blew the building up, and Jason never talked to Bruce again. He came close when he kidnapped Mia (though not for any shady purposes he wanted to talk to her and he wanted her to listen that is probably one of the best examples of how he thinks this is a good and reasonable way to operate AND IT TOTALLY ISN'T, JASON B|), but in the end, the clues he left for Bruce were misdirection aimed at keeping him busy, and he left without ever seeing his former mentor. He does have contact with Dick and Tim, but he never tries to contact Bruce again. By the time he shows up in Gotham again, after Countdown, in fact, Bruce is already missing. During Countdown he did have contact with a Bruce from the Gotham Gaslight universe as well as a Bruce who had snapped and killed the Joker as well as many other supervillains after his Jason's death. That Bruce gave him the Red Robin costume, and for a while, it seemed like he might be on the path to a more superheroic, less violent philosophy... NOPE. Eventually he ditched Donna and Kyle, saying, "The cape and cowl game is for suckers," and dumped the uniform. In my view, that should have signified the end of his desire to be a "better" Batman, though of course, one can't discount the fact Jason is admittedly unstable from time to time.
My Jason Todd: Feminist thing. Since spending almost two years in the City at
capeandcowl, he's calmed down a lot and been forced to take it easy. He didn't care about the City the same way he cared about Gotham, he made some friends, most notably Danny Rand (IRON FIST). Danny is important in two ways: first, Jason could never really stand a chance of hurting him the slightest bit, since Danny is so overwhelmingly better at martial arts and can do a million wacky chi things, and second, Danny had NO FUCKING IDEA about Jason's history and thus never treated him with wariness that would have been justified (even though he would honestly never have any reason to be wary of Jason due to his bamfness). During this time, Jason finally came to the conclusion he needed to stop obsessing about Bruce and Batfamily in general and just move on with his life. That... isn't going to happen, at least not right away, but toward the end of his C&C stay, he'd been making the effort to do things that weren't vigilante-like activities (though tromping around Africa killing people isn't all that different??) and find something resembling a life for himself. He'd been on his way to becoming something like a real person instead of an anti-hero stereotype. He'd been kinda sorta seeing Miho from Sin City, someone whose attitude towards vigilantism was fairly compatible; he'd been fostering a not-entirely-dysfunctional relationship with Carrie, who he would never admit to viewing as the little sister he'd kind of always wanted but she totally was; he'd even made a bit of headway with Dick, although that got erased later on. He and Bruce had parted more or less amicably. IT WAS LOOKING OKAY. And then Baedal. B|
Object: a crowbar :C otherwise, if this is okay, his inventory includes lockpicks, the two glocks (no extra ammunition), the kris, his body armor, and the helmet
Reason for playing: Jason is a mixed up, angry young man who usually causes some interesting reactions wherever he goes. He's self-sufficient, but not so much that he won't interact with people; he likes to talk and is playful (er, in a really mean, awful way). He can be a good character for comedy OR drama. With his C&C history, he becomes a more stable, more complex character, and I would love to bounce him off tons of the characters already in game even more than I would actual canonmates, though those are most definitely welcome.
Gods: Gediron for warring, fighting, and conflict (and Jason is anything but a quitter); Eliandre for the fact he's died once and come back to life; Vell for the personal tragedy and revenge. And butthurtness.

First-Person Network Post:
A C&C network post where Jason attempts to guilt people into helping him hunt down the Joker.First-Person Journal Post: I think I might be twenty-two now. I'm about six months behind, and missing a few more other than that, and... fuck, I don't know. I'm probably about twenty-two. I'm just gonna say I'm twenty-two. Nobody who would care is around. I don't even care.
I don't remember where I thought I would be at this age. Sure as hell not here, but better than being dead. Better than a lot of things. I'm not mad.
