j,

how do you name characters in stories so they don't sound like madeup names?
how do you rename characters in stories who are based on people in real life?
how do you rename yourself?

what would my name be if it were not devorah?

more & more i go by 'devorah.' deVORah.

when going by 'deborah,' it's sort of two-and-a-half syllables. DEH-bor-ah. the last two syllables are quick. i emphasize all three, because it isn't 'deb-ra,' and i want people to spell it correctly.

but yes, more often, devorah.

i wouldn't want any other name. it's just, in the book i'm writing, i now have to make everything fiction. so i need a new name. it's much more tedious than i originally thought.
