Moving on up

Sep 02, 2004 01:45

It sure has been a while since I have made any entries, the reasons for which are as varied as they are boring. For the most part I have been out of town or busy or whatever it was that I was going to blog about radically changed before I could around to writing about it. Really, for the most part, I haven't had any desire to write since my all of ( Read more... )

Good to see you're still around, I was starting to wonder. Funny you should mention teaching, I started night classes at Carlow University last week to get my Art Ed. certification. If all goes well I'll be student teaching next fall. Not sure yet what grade level I want to teach though.

Wow, what happened with the design place you were working with (if you don't mind me asking)? I would recommend avoiding the middle school set if possible, I have never heard anything but horror stories about that age group, high schoolers are pretty cool (except for the ones that act like middle schoolers). Really, the students were the best part about teaching overall, even the ones that acted crazy had their moments, it is just when you have more than 20 in a class that things can start to go awry ( ... )

Well, the design field is really oversaturated here, what with the Art Institute, LaRoche, Penn State, and numerous other schools pumping out graduates left and right. Carlow is the only university around here that does Art Ed. Cert., which is good. A friend of mine who teaches middle school art has been wanting me to try art ed, so here I am. I've really had trouble getting ahold of Mr Shady (read as: he won't call me back for some reason), I need to talk to him regarding some of my classes transferring. Who knows where I'll end up... probably public school, because of the pay and benefits. Also I've heard that if you teach in a Catholic school, a public school will never hire you after that. Anyhow maybe I'll even end up in the inner city, where they really need teachers... I don't think I would mind that. I'll keep you posted. I just found out yesterday that since I'm a 5th year student I have to submit a portfolio for review... I don't know what I've even kept from UNA. I guess I'll find out.

Yep, it is going to be a veritable extravaganza up in there, especially if I can work in all of the welding projects I have got planned out and don't end up blinding myself in the process.

Craziness I say...yo?...Nevermind. Teaching, is it such a bad thing? The sad thing is that Luckyharms and I have seriously considered such a career. Freaky since school tends to equal mysery but there is always that small part of you that thinks that if one such as one's self became a teacher then that would equal less hell for students. WHile as of the moment I am an engineering major at this crappy community college My parents are threatening to cut off my financial support so I will either get student loans or gov. help(this actually being the perfered method because it involves screwing the system, of course this is only payback for the future act of them retrieving money through finatial rectal exams. It will actually be double screwing now that I found that I dont have to pay a dime in taxes on any of the money I made or will make while working for my father.)Anyways if such a thing should happen I would definately change my major and Im thinking about teaching History or English(not grammar of course) or hell even math being t ( ... )

I really think it all depends on where you teach that determines whether or not you enjoy it, that and whether or not you have a well established social life coming into the job. I don't think it is a bad career choice, I am just not so sure it is the best one for me right now at this stage in my life. I would like to get out there and work on various projects and get more life experiences in the business before settling into one spot to teach, it just seems like I would be ready to settle down after I got it all out of my system and would have more to offer in my lessons. Wow, what's up with the 'rents going to cut you off ( ... )

Curiously enough I ran across a book in the thrift store called The Demon Princes. It looks to be a good read because it seems to have nothing to do with religion whatsoever. Ive only read a little, but the setting so far is a bar\inn on an unihabited planet in some time in the distant future though the dating system is has nothing to do with anything. Its by a guy named Jack Vance. So pretty cool name equals pretty good book right?

I plan on moving somewhere close to birmingham this summer. Way to get a teaching job yo, that is if you do decide to. Where can you send comic ideas and sketches to hopefully get paid? That is without getting ripped.

Are you going to be taking classes at UAB? If you need help finding a decent place to move into let me know, since Chris has been shopping around he knows just about all of the best places to move into that are relatively cheap. Hmmm, not sure on the comics front, I am trying to get up to speed on that type of thing myself, but I do highly recommend www.eatpoo.com for good info and general inspiration, it is a great place to post work to get good feedback and the people that post there aren't a bunch of trolls. Still working on the "Puking Battleships" comic?

If she does see if they got some kind of deal for if you get them in bulk, we really want to get a few of them or, if they are sold out, the frog butlers. Definitely post a pic of them soon, nobody believes me about those things besides Chris who knows that Huntsville is the home to such madness and that it is too insane not to be true. Oh yeah, have you seen the character line-up for Neo Geo Colosseum yet?

Yeah! Atomiswave is nice, but I'm glad to see Marco shine! Where's Fio, goddammit?

I want to see the regular soldier guys from MS in there, maybe have them call in reinforcements for attacks or turn into zombies or something wacky, but yeah, Fio should be in there somewhere, maybe she is a hidden character with modded marco attacks or something. I am looking forward to this game about 100 times more than Capcom Fighting Jam, the big C needs to get off their ass and either do something more innovative with there fighters or be like SNK/Playmore and put out something that you can tell they had fun with in the creation process. Then again Capcom IS doing other stuff in different genres but still, I wish they would put more effort into their fighters now instead of putting out something that will sell regardless, which is saying a lot coming from a guy that wants to own every fighting game regardless of quality, boy I just sound like a kook at this point.
