Supernatural 3x10 - Dream a Little Dream of Me

Feb 08, 2008 23:56

I am really late with this post. I talked with __tiana__. about the show for 2 hours last night, and then I read a reaction post that pissed me of, so I had to just step away from the computer. There are times where I get why people have issues with an episode, and other times where it just annoys the crap out of me, and last night it was the latter. I also ( Read more... )

It mentioned possible spoilers so I avoided it. I will catch up on all interviews after next week's show. :)

yes it did have spoilers for this eppy and next week's. though i have gotten so good at reading over things that contain spoilers and then promptly forgetting the OMG! points. it is a neat trick to have honed...i blame it on being a moderator for the Fuse. LOL

you have amazing resolve. kudos.

ION, we should know soon if we get more eppys as the striking writers are due to meet tomorrow to look over the rough draft of proposals. yay! i hope they are able to work a good deal and then get back to making shiny new eppys.

I am a complete spoilerphobe. There was only one time that spoilers benefited me and that was for Buffy - Seeing Red. I don't scare easily, in fact there has only ever been one time that a television show has actually unnerved me, so I depend on the unexpected to give me thrills.

Even if we get more episodes (which I REALLY NEED), Kripke said that he will not finish this storyline this year, so either way, we have to wait. :(

Wonderful points you make; I enjoyed your entire review. Thanks especially for the reference to Blue Velvet and the bright exterior hiding the dark secrets within. I haven't seen the movie since it came out in theatres (!) and had completely forgotten about it, but your theory makes a lot of sense. Your wicked witch of the West theory is also very appealing, because I adore Margaret Hamilton, and Dean needs more witches in life. By the way, which moment is it that we are admiring Dean's beauty in--or is that a stupid question ( ... )

I've been thinking about the ending, and have a newish theory. As it's a dream episode, the end represents Dean's new nightmare, where Dean (not alternate Dean) can successfully snap his fingers now that he's confronted and banished his inner demons, but it's a moot point because his destiny is to become a literal demon himself. You like?

Great points :)

I'm quite happy that I'm not in the thick of fandom, but very marginal in a John-focused tangent/space...because some people, really. If they expect the show to openly acknowledge INCEST, well...I think they're going to wait a loooong time *G*

It was a truly rich episode, in visual and hidden meanings. I loved it. And I think many have missed the fact that, well, a really bad father? It's Jeremy's father. Not Sam and Dean's. ;)

I think that fandom is so used to being on the defensive that they are interpreting every alternate view point as an attack, and if you are fully secure in your opinion, you really shouldn't feel that way ( ... )

Me too! :D

And yes, to what you said about John and Dean. John says it clearly in DMB: "Your mother's death, it almost killed me. I can't stand losing my children. I won't." (paraphrasing the second sentence)

So, yes, absolutely, Dean needs to see his father for the man he was, not the superhero a traumatised kid made up in his mind. Doesn't mean they didn't love each other, and sibling rivalry is just that, and pretty normal. We all have fears, more or less unconfessed, in the back of our minds - doubting (to a certain extent, of course) makes us balanced!

I caved in and watched the clips for the the next ep: this show ROCKS. :D

I wonder who had the job of cleaning up Bobby's house? Or if they just built an entirely new set for it, because there are over 6000 books in Bobby's present house,a nd that is a lot to clean and then put back in a specific order.

In season 1 the boys fought easier demons/monsters, and they depended on John's journal, so they really have just replaced their main source of information. I would really like to see them in a library again, but I can see why some would worry about that being boring/filler television.

So... if the dream root was the same as the poppies in Wizard of Oz... what will be the Emerald City? Who will be THE WIZARD? *ponders*

Oooh dude. 6000? How do you know? Is that canon? It wouldn't surprise me.
and i'll bet they *did* clean it up. I love Bobby's house. *Pocket doors*.
*swoons*

Yeah, i wish they'd go to the journal a little more often, too, but John seemed rather narrow in his hunts, and they boys had so much crazy stuff to hunt in season two and three - and many more demons, which is Bobby's thing, so...

Huh. Emerald City. Didn't really go that far in my musings, i was more 'pretty!'. Heh.

In the season 1 companion the set decorator George Neuman says that Bobby's house has around five thousand to six thousand books. (page 123)

Eventually the journal has to run out of info; John didn't research everything and the journal is only so big.

And I don't think that they will go too deep into Wizard of Oz, even if I am right and they are referencing it. However, it would be great if Dean could call someone a winged-monkey. :P

I really enjoyed your review and agree with it!!
I TOO LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

I would have been seriously pissed off to have read the comments of others that created the cohesiveness of this post.
I may not agree with what the writers do sometimes with characters addition or deletion of...but that is why I am not paid the bucks to write. No one would watch my show with Dean running around (sometimes with shirt, sometimes without) with guns blazin', killing stuff beside his Dad and Sam tagging along...sometimes with shirt, sometimes without and NO girls!!...heehee..you get my drift.

Thanks for the fabulous post!!
