Because sorry, you know every time I see the young'uns of Peeta, Finnick, and Gale being featured and Haymitch being left on the sidelines ignored, I feel compelled to step in and defend just how amazing he is. ;) For lisal825's Literary Lads That We Love meme

I'll be frank and admit Haymitch isn't on the page that much. It's mainly Katniss, the protagonist, and her obsession with her partner/love interest, Peeta, and we only see Haymitch through the POV of a somewhat self-centered, judgmental teenage girl. Which kind of sucks. But for not having much page time, Haymitch definitely is a vivid, deep char for people who actually bother to think about it.

TBH I'd recommend you read some Hunger Games fics before I'd recommend the actual books?

Lovely analysis. He truly his complex. I love his compassion, his wiliness and all the other facets that make haymitch, haymitch.

Thank you! I love the combination of a devious brain and a loving heart, because all too often it's implied that you can't have both.

You make some fantastic points here, it's great to see so much about Haymitch put together in one place, because he's such a constant in the books, without being centre stage that often, that what we learn about him feeds out very gradually. Thanks for bringing all of that together. I really enjoyed reading this.

Thanks! Haymitch really does kind of stand off in the shadows a lot, and his character takes a lot of thinking about what it all means rather than just what's on the page. But I think he's all the more rewarding for it.
