Surgery is slated for Friday.  Not sure when yet, waiting for the scheduler to call me.  The break is bad.  The snap I felt on the way down was, indeed, a ligament rupturing, and apparently I need that ligament to hold my tibia and fibula together.  I'll get screws to hold the bones together laterally (those will come out in 3-4 months) and

At least your apartment is more or less at ground level. You have the small stairs in the front but not huge amounts.

That sounds like an immensely complicated fracture - I am truly sorry that you ended up with not only a fracture but a ligament tear.

A couple of things:
Short term disability - if you have it, it maybe easier to do that instead of dealing with working while broken. Or at least for the early broken period before stuff is healed.

2nd - paratransit? Dunno if you qualify or how you get it.

When I was stuck at home unemployed I ended up starting all these sit-around-the house hobbies - origami, beading, etc.

I was thinking the same things on disability + paratransit. People in wheelchairs get to work every day, it's not impossible. There's got to be a way you can get to work.

Lemme know when you're home, now that we're back from vacation I can come in and see you.

Actually, maybe you could set up a group Google calendar so we can all see when someone is with you and when someone isn't ... I believe if you start up a "GimpTracy" Google group, you can make lists to share among us for Things You Need and such. Hrm.
