Can I pick your brain?

Apr 07, 2005 17:19

I am eager to explore new and different surfaces to make art on or, at least use as a backing. I've tried the traditional things.......panels, wood, etc. I'm thinking non-traditional. Anyone ever tried anything like this?

recently, i've seen some very interesting stuff done on texturized/patterned paper. so, something akin to wallpaper - where you may or may not have a neutral colour, but always the ability to bring up the texture through to your paints.

like a trashcan lid? If you seal it, it would be durable to hang outside on a patio or porch. Blow this idea up larger buy using an large piece of metal you can get from the scrapyard. Maybe the scrapped front hood of a car ( ... )

How about book covers? I have a bunch of these and they seem like a good surface - except for the ragged edge at one end (where the binding is). I have a bunch I'm going to throw out so if you want to pay for shipping for them, they are yours. I'd stick them in the recycle bin but for some reason they don't accept hardcover books.

I did send the yarn, you should be getting it any day now :) I'll let you know the postage on the book covers soon. I thought it be $7.70 again, but i think they might be lighter than that :)

Hi Deb,

For the book covers:
The postage will be $7.70 in the flat rate priority box.
My paypal address is headtart@queen-of-tarts.com

If you get that to me soon, I'd really appreciate it :)

Thank you,

You know what I would love to paint on? Old discarded doors or old window frames that still have the glass panes in them.

Just read an article about this teenager who walked into a high end boutique clothing store wearing her keds that she had painted on. They snatched them up and comissioned her to make more! They sell for over $100. They are pretty elaborate and cool looking.

ever seen painted door/window screens in baltimore?

glass is cool to work on.
i did a whole series on acetate using black watercolor crayon- it's a really fun workable surface.
