okay, jane was cool, but honestly, a little inane. i know, i'm sorry, but for all their posturing and trying - well, christina aguilera? avril lavigne? no, thank you. glamour is actually very cool - the hipster music and books may be absent, but it's actually pretty globally-conscious and body-positive (at least, i think so). and if you're looking a new, off-the-radar read, bitch magazine is amazing.
admittedly, towards the end, the cover celebrities Jane chose got kind of bad, but they did put cool girls like Zooey Deschanel and Anne Hathaway on the cover too. And I liked that they embraced Pamela Anderson actually. Every other magazine is very quick to write her off as a retarded degredation of women, but Jane decided to take a walk on the wild side and try to allow people to regard her as more three-dimensional--they let her have her own column, while Jane Pratt was the editor. I just remember Glamour being along the same vein as Cosmopolitan and Marie Claire...boring ideas, an overload of redundant sexual tips, garish and cluttered layouts and uh, christina aguilera and avril lagvine-type cover celebrities. I know that they do include content about women's struggles in developing countries and such, which they deserve credit for (Jane, before the final down slide, did so as well) but I feel like Vogue does that too, and more stylishly.
I know Jane wasn't perfect, but I was kinda loyal to it. Thanks for the suggestion about
oh my god, i know exactly what you mean. i do love nylon for their incredibly nice design and DIY stufff...haha. but i hope that when i graduate from college (or even before that) i can start and run a magazine aimed toward the kind of intellectual riotgrrl vixen i want to be. with design AND content. because i fucking love magazines and there is an extreme drought of worthy selections right now.
the muse is my canvas. lolol. will you do artwork for it? i would love that... :)
OHHHH MY GOD THAT'S WHY I'M GETTING GLAMOUR! i seriously opened my mailbox and saw an issue of glamour in there. i thought it was some cool, free subscription. i thought i was getting away with something naughty! i'd trade it in any day for the chance to have jane back!
on the other hand glamour, i agree, is pretty good. layout, not as good, entertainment choices, same. but it's still a decent magazine. no jane though... no jane.
