Dexter

One of my roommates cats - Dexter - died yesterday  (she has 5 others).  He had been at the vet over the weekend getting some tests, and turn a huge downward turn yesterday morning.  They think it was heart failure, but won't know for sure until the tissue sample comes back from the lab.    She is, of course, very upset and it's made me realize ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about Dexter..I know it's very painful to lose a dear member of the family.

I hope you aren't getting sick...I'll send get well wishes your way!

That's sad news about Dexter.

Yes, cats don't tend to show symptoms until disease is well advanced. If we'd known that, we probably would have been able to keep our Sura for at least a few months longer than we did. We certainly extended Kimi-cat's life (that's him in my avatar) because we had his kidney disease diagnosed way before it was showing symptoms.

Thanks - and i've noticed that the other cats seem to be aware that he's gone. They are all a little more subdued than normal. I don't understand the people who think that animals have no emotions; just watching them now is proof they do.

Oh, absolutely do they have emotions! Kimi-cat definitely mourned Sura. They'd been together every day of their lives since they were three months old, till Sura died at the age of 16. Just at first, Kimi-cat would find himself alone in a room and just yowl mournfully. It was heart-rending.

I'm so sorry about Dexter :( I'm so attached to my little dog, I can only imagine how upset you guys are

and hope you are feeling better, reading lots of reports of con "flu" get some rest!
