It's time to put on my big girl panties and grow up, I guess.

Today I went to a job fair in which I waited seven (yes, SEVEN) hours to get in my two interviews before being told that most of the positions (it was for a new hotel and restaurant opening downtown) had already been filled and the only things left (housekeeping and bell hops) didn't look like they'd "fit me". It was at this point that I found ( Read more... )

that must feel totally awesome to have that revelation.
I still don't know what I want to do, but I agree completely that people are lame. I don't like people either. At least not enough to have to deal with them at my job. It's not even that i don't like helping people out, I can't stand talking to them. It's completely mechanical for me. I've always wanted a job with as little physical/verbal contact with other people as possible. But I can't think of one that would pay more that $8/hr (janitor, backstock employee, housekeeping, produce harvester, etc).

Good luck with your college plans! I hope everything works out for you! Engineering sounds like an awesome major because it's actually realistic and it seems like you're compatible for that field.

EXACTLY. Like, I dream of being a stocker in a warehouse and other jobs that involve little human contact (doesn't that make me sound awful?! haha) but yeah, they don't pay and there isn't really much in the way of building any career or retirement with them ( ... )

Haha, wow...good for you Kelly. And it's funny that you're just now realizing this, because I'm starting to realize I want a job working with people and should've majored in social work or something, hahahaha. We're both so screwed up.

HA! Well if you do go back to school, get a degree in social work and not psychology or sociology. A degree in social work will actually prepare you to enter a social work type position immediately after graduating vs my degree. I would have to go back to school and do more classes to actually become a social worker even though my degree is similar, you know?

We are screwed up. I mean I always had a nagging in the back of my head to do something like engineering but I didn't want to fullfill what was EXPECTED of me, you know? I'm sure you know what I mean...It's sort of an immature point of view, but oh well. Live and learn.

We'll figure it out...someday.
