I had just left the parking lot here and was like 1/2 block for the office about to cross through the first intersection right there on the corner. A SUV was making a left turn and the SUV lost it and flipped twice about 3 car lengths from me ( Read more... )

I took a first aid course this past semester at school and became a certified citizen responder. You many not feel like you did much but the number one priority in any situation is keeping the person calm and lending that soft touch. You'ld be surprised what a world of good that can do for a person that's just had a traumatic experience. In my opinion you did an excellent job :)

Next time something like that happens though, you should make sure they stay in the car (unless you smell fumes or a fire breaks out) and try to keep them from moving their neck.

Otherwise, like I said before, you did awesome :)

I tried so hard to keep him sitting in the car, but he was flipping out. I put some presure on his shoulder, but honestly I didn't know this guy from Jack and I was afraid that he might over react to me if I pushed to hard to keep him still. It was very unnerving.

Hopefully I won't find myself in the situation again, but if I do I will certainly have received proper training in advance. i found the local First Aid training course and I'm coordinating with our HR department to have them come here and give training to anyone that wants it.

CPR training is a good thing to have, def do it.

But don't underestimate your influence. I'm sure you remember how bad it can be when you are flipping out... having a quiet calming influence is extremely helpful. You might have saved him by preventing him from jumping out immediately and running into traffic. I'm sure he will remember gratefully that someone was there next to him, lending support. Everyone needs that during a crisis.

*hugs*

good job
