Sounds like an awesome time! Glad you had fun with your family, it seems to be a generally rare ocurrence.

And the quick answer on nitrifying bacteria: I believe I'll have Nitrosomonas to create nitrites(NO2-) from ammonia(NH3) and ammonium(NH4+) and then Nitrobacters to further oxidize the nitrites into nitrates(NO3-). I don't know much about chemistry, or bio, so I hope that makes sense.

yeah thanks. your biochem makes sense, though I'll probably better understand after first block biochem. Aquariums are great, though, and should be really sweet to have in your room at school. i'm jealous!

You know, you can come visit sometime if you want - aquariums (apart from being awesome) are also relaxing. I wouldn't mind knowing more about how these damn bacteria work either...
