This is footage of our Grandfather's unit, the 2/3 Commando, in battle at roughly the time he was injured: perhaps the same action.
My surmise is based on examining his service records and the unit's history.
He might even be in there somewhere.

Instead of all the Generation X versus Y, I feel a real division occurred in around 1981.

If you were born before then, you got to recognise that you were living in the Cold War, and had the fun of contemplating imminent world destruction. If you were born after then, you missed out, as the Cold War ended in 1989.

Well, it seems that we get one month of spring then straight into summer these years.
We're already getting bushfires, for one.
Furthermore, the only practical measurement I have for insane heat--WOLO: or when the rail tracks are deformed by high temperature--occurred yesterday.

From the 9th of August I once again became serious about my diet, thereby hopefully removing the 16.8kg I had put on over the previous 367 days. In my mind it occupies the same area as when I gave up smoking: a battleground defined by (primarily) a desire to be healthy, with will-power the major weapon in my arsenal. I was notified today by the RailCorp recruitment centre that my training for train driver will begin on the 25th of June.
I should be driving trains by the start of 2008.
