Interesting concept. I couldn't really grasp the whole thing, as I'm really not good with that, but I agree with the Adam and Eve thing. I think very scientifically. I just don't think God could whip up two people and have the make what the earth is today, you know, six billion people.

There are people who take every word in the bible for truth, and it's really, not that great to see.

Great entry.

I'm taking a religious studies course, and I've learned some very interesting things about Christianity in it...

The one that really applies here relates to your apple and puppy bit. Apparently Eastern Orthodox Christians believe much as you do. That Adam and Eve were like children (toddlers even) and so when they took the apple they weren't really disobeying out of evilness, just out of childhood ignorance and so on. So according to them god is not putting humans through eternal suffering because of this one act. Instead it's a firm teaching, like a parent would do. I guess it's like when you sneak into the cookie jar as a kid, and somehow manage to tip it over and spill all the cookies. Your Mom and Dad aren't angry at you forever and aren't going to deny you cookies for the rest of your life. Instead they place the cookie jar in a much harder to reach place, for a while. Until you've learned.

Have you ever read William Blakes The Tyger? The first time I read it I had such a strong 'christian' reaction to it (not that I'm ( ... )

Well look at that... derekhaltom March 2 2005, 20:43:01 UTC
Mention religion and you get quite a reaction out of people. Intriguing. Some very interesting points were brought up in all the responses I read. I like the way it was put by the starving poet though, Adam and Eve acting out of ignorance rather than evilness or disobedience. Those were words that may have reflected what I meant to say better than the ones I used. And in case there was any confusion, I wasn't blaming Eve for the apple thing. I probably didn't get that point across as well as I wanted to though. I was reflecting more on the theme of ignorance than any intentions on her part. I do agree with shamrock though, it was Adam's choice, although if he was anything like me then he would have had a hard time saying no. (Apparently being misunderstood is also a chance taken when discussing religion, but I think the fault lay in my own statements ( ... )

I'm not one for religous talk...perhaps I'm scarred by all those CDD classes I was forced to take on Saturday morning and miss my Punky Brewster cartoon.

In additon to the fact that I really don't know much about religion.

Hope your next thought is about something I can comment better on, like porn or penguins. (not together of course! I shutter to think!)

*hugs for Derek*
