Supersize me sometimes?

Just saw a neat article about a scientific study based on the movie Supersize Me. If you haven't seen it, it's a documentary where the subject eats nothing but McDonalds for one month. By the end he is depressed, fat and has no libido. It was generally hailed as a condemnation of the fast food industry ( Read more... )

Hmm... the point of Supersize Me was that it only targeted McDonalds food. It was a condemnation of the McDonalds industry. Other companies just fell into a similar category. If the Swedish scientist was allowing his students to eat all kinds of junk foods, he didn't really replicate the experiment at all. I'm not sure it's totally comparable =\ What about those students' mental states and libidos?

In any case, it would be interesting to see what happens when the experiment is duplicated with each kind of fast food exclusively - KFC, Pizza Hut, Chinese food =P

Just because they weren't limited to McDonalds doesn't mean it wasn't a good experiment.

"In another difference from the movie, Nyström didn't order his volunteers to eat only at McDonald's. They were also allowed to eat pizza, fried chicken, chocolate and other high-fat food whenever they could no longer stomach burgers."

They still had a high-fat, junk food diet. As I understood Supersize Me, it was more a condemnation of the fast food culture, which is epitomized by McDonalds.

I totally agree that it was a good experiment - just not comparable to Supersize Me =P

If Supersize Me was a condemnation of the whole fast food culture, I would have expected them to include aspects of other junk foods in the documentary - not soley McDonalds. After all, not all junk food is created equal.

I've eaten at least one quarter pounder meal with cheese (NOT, a royale with cheese in Barcelona) every day for the last week. As far as I can tell the worst effect has been on my skin.
