Before streaming video on the Internet we had public access on cable. GRTV (Grand Rapids Television) was literally a channel for insane people. I'm sure it still is, I haven't seen it in a while. When I was growing up, they would play things like Bollywood, followed by some dudes old super8 home movies, followed by a dad and daughter team who ( Read more... )

DARYL NATHAN!
me and alice were just talking about him the other day. we heart him.

also, there was some show on friday nights at like midnight or one a.m., and it was just like a winamp visualization screen with crazy music, and you'd call in and just talk and it'd be on the air. me and alice would call every weekend because she slept over all the time, and then the creepy 20something loser guy who ran it started intercepting our calls and telling us to sneak out of the house and come visit him. we were like 15.

I CALLED THAT SHOW TOO!!

Except I would hide in the closet so that I didn't wake my parents. Looking back on it, I didn't really need to, but I felt sneaky and cool. I loved that mad echo they would put on the calls so people would be like "Hello - o - o - o - o - o..." for five minutes and then hang up.

Good times. That show had nudity, too.

OMFG!!!!! I can believe you found that! I remember when we called him when we were young'ns! Remember Mrs. DeYoung my art teacher had to pick him up and drive him places because he couldnt drive! He wanted 4,000 to play at our school. I think we saw him at Festival too. I heard he moved to Chicago, you should be looking for him!

You were the first person I thought of when I found this. I was like "Ooohhh I hope Liz reads her Live Journal Friends!!"

Something about a robot voice saying Daryl Nathan and di-me.

When we saw him at Festival, he was on his short descent into obscurity. It was the new songs, man, he really thought he was an 'artist!'

Public Access is the greatest thing ever. Give bored (crazy) people access to broadcasting equipment? Genius.

You should see this new guy that we have now. His name is Aldo, and he looks like a rejected Sopranos extra. He dresses up in a tuxedo and sings "standards". He's my bleeping hero.
