And sure there will be people that can't make it, but you could hold a celebration with those people when you get back and show them photos, so they will still be included :)
Yes Dealing with our families can be very stressful... Thing about the bill is that most of them didn't have to pay that much because they live about 3 hours away from toronto and are farmers in the country, everything is a lot cheaper there... So they don't understand when we say how much it will cost us...
I don't know what's going on, but usually everyone likes the idea of a destination wedding. Tom and I were considering one. We still might be, granted he proposes soon. :P
Destination weddings are fun, inexpensive, romantic, exciting, and compact (a wedding and honeymoon all in one!). Don't let the sticks-in-the-mud tell you any different. Lisa Goral got married in the Dominican earlier this year, and it looked like a dream. She highly recommended it.
How long have you guys been dating now? Do you guys think you'll ever get married?
I've yet to hear about someone that had a bad time doing a destination wedding! and all the pluses you mentioned... It seems like a good idea, it just seems like everyone (sorry, my family) is against us, on pretty much any ideas we have
I know I haven't talked to you in a while, just saw this post, and wanted to say this.
If you want to go away away and get married, then do so! I wanted to, but was forced to stay here and get married.
but also, I just got married in August and had 150 people at the wedding and it was $13,000 - with a $3000 open bar included in that, so keeping costs down can happen, it's just figuring out what you can do yourself, if you decide to stay here and are looking for some tips, let me know, I am full of ideas!!! And I made pretty much everything myself (invites, programs, favours, center pieces, guestbook - you pretty much name it, I did it)
Well its really nice to know that you can do it for less then $20k! but I've got some questions. Where was the wedding? Where was the reception, and what did you pay per plate at the reception?
The wedding was at a hall in Pickering (really Ajax) at a place called Holiday Gardens and the reception was at the same place. We got married outside on the grounds. We paid $20.95 for food per plate and then we had an open bar, which we spent $3000 on - which worked out to be $20 per person. The linens were all included with the meal and wedding favors were $2.50 per couple, everyone got a silver frame with their name in it, with the meaning of their name and so on, plus each couple, or single got two star candles, one was smaller then the other, I have pics of everything I can show you.
I must admit we got mixed reviews on the food, but it wasn't our main consern for the whole night, we wanted to do everything for as little as we could - and we just really wanted to have a good party. Sorry it took me SO long to get back to you... I don't come on here that much.

I think a wedding in the Dominican Republic sounds awesome!
I'm going to see the pumpkins in Atlanta on Halloween!!! I'm so excited because it will be my first time seeing them.
