I know, I shouldn't and its not a good solution but a tiny bit of me can't help wishing that the North Koreans wouldn't hurry up and make good on their threat to pick a fight with South Korea. You see, although this would be unpleasant, noticeably more so than the Iraq fiasco, it would at least get it over and done with.

Nobody will do it as the NK/SK standoff is widely considered to be a US/China proxy and neither of the big boys are interested in backing a proxy war. Everyone's just waiting for Li'l Kim to die off, which he may already have done, mind...

I am with you. Hopefully the mess that will ensue when the last leader with holy blood snuffs it will either make the regime implode or will force it into the 19th, if not the 21st century. I don't reckon that the Chinese would be that eager to defend NK though, as how much do you think they really want a completely batshit mad power with nuclear toys on their border? China is one of the few places that NK can actually reach with its missiles and I can't imagine even the Chinese would regard Kim as reliable.

Still, like you said, hopefully he'll die and the problem will go away. He looked pretty sick on some of the newsreels associated with the nuke launch I saw, much thinner that he used to be.

I disagree. I think the chinese really really don't want US troops on their border* and would (are) doing all they can to avoid that by propping up NK.
Secondly a fight, no matter how one sided, will cause a lot of damage to Seoul and hence major civilian casualties (always a less popular option when they're civilians on your side).
And thirdly, I'm not sure that anyone really wants to have to cope with 23,000,000 heavily indoctrinated poverty stricken North Koreans.

*Just remember what happened last time the US almost reached there (where did those 300,000 soldiers come from?).
