Oh, so much to love here, from the pitch-perfect Gojyo to brittle Kanaan who just wants to melt. I don't know how you did it. I'm going to have to read it again, but there is so much history in just a few little words. You couldn't have made a pairing more perfect for each other.

This:

"Then he burped and scratched at his crotch, and the illusion of Banri with a heart burst like an over-inflated balloon."

That was my best laugh of the day so far.

Thanks for this beautiful story. I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it, but even if you aren't taking it farther, it's a beautiful snapshot on its own.

Banri was fun to write and he totally grew on me, The story needs him so much, and in the end, I needed him, too. It was creepy.

Isn't he so much fun? There's just something so innocent about him, even in the canon I find him a bit on the innocent side.

I just discovered this. Very interesting pairing. I do hope Hakkai will be entering the field at some point, but even without him, I like what you've done with these two. Such battered little children. Though Kanan seems to have retained a sort of innocent optimism in spite of her experiences - which is quite different from the Kanan in canon. Is there a reason for that? Seems like she is surrounded by good people in her "now" I guess. Well, lucky me, I have quite a bit to read now!! I'm looking forward to the rest!!
