Well, it's Friday, and hopefully heralds in the start of a new weekly tradition - 1001 Insomniac Nights updates. Week 3, entitled Wafflehouse is up.

In short, I would describe The Crimson Mask as a stream-lined, intense fantasy novel that is kind of artsy, a little pulpy, and ultimately about the pointlessness of revenge and the true nature of redemption. It is a medieval urban high fantasy with magic swords and fantastical cities... and undead.

There's a line in a Counting Crows song that goes "It's 3:00 a.m. on a Tuesday\ It doesn't get much worse than this." And owing to the fact that it's currently 4:50 a.m. on a Tuesday, and I can't seem to get to sleep, it keeps running in my head ( Read more... )

I'm poking at a novel concept ten years old and struggling to find a way to rewrite it and still salvage some of what has already been written. There's a certain amount of despair realizing that the base concept for my first fantasy novel, and I suppose the basis for the ones I'm working on now, is something that an agent might actually request ( Read more... )
