Sparda
CANON Devil May Cry
PERSONALITY Sparda is a powerful demon of unknown age who has a thing for the human world (at the very least he very much likes it). At most times he cuts the perfect image of a laid-back European gentleman, a stoic nobleman or a traditional warrior. A man of a smooth voice but often few words, -or at least few direct words. He is proud, calculating, jaded, a bit old fashioned; and more often than not brandishes an aloof personality to go with.
Beneath the surface lurks the passionate and not so conforming personality of the demonic knight who rebelled against his own kin and dared to fall in love. Sparda continues to fight the good fight as The Protector Of Humankind, but he is not necessarily all nice. If so inclined, Sparda knows very well how to be both cold-hearted vicious and quite the bastard. He is, after all, a demon and his ethics and logic reflect that. Likewise, a lot of Sparda's human-like behaviour is an act that he has polished: he is not human, even if he sometimes enjoys to pretend.
Sparda does what he wants and prefers to do it in style. He very much enjoys human culture and likes a whole lot of things (virtues are to be cherished but a vice or two is never not a devil's friend) -such as the colour purple, swords and firearms, pretty women, high culture, and afternoon tea.
An ageless creature, Sparda remains somewhat removed from the usual grind of the human world. He is not beyond behaving in a way that from a normal perspective might seem childish, goofy, insensitive, illogical or generally just strange. This includes the occasional bafflement or fascination at the sometimes incomprehensible workings of humans, or just up and disappearing for a century or so.
For practicality's sake, Sparda prefers a reasonably low profile but -it sometimes clashes with his sense of style and passion, and he may contradict himself.
The loss of Eva and the scattering of his sons is a recent, and heavy, sore spot on his mind. Sparda is a sore looser in any matter but matters of the heart is of course extra sensitive. Although calm on the outside Sparda remains grieving. Parts of his emotional state is still a bit unstable and may cause him to be a little more than usual prone to act risky or on impulse.
HISTORY: Sparda is a demon that rebelled against his own kind for the sake of the human world around two thousand years ago. He defeated countless demons and their Emperor, Mundus, before sealing the gateway(s?) to the demon world. These actions made him a legend in the human world and gained him the moniker "The Legendary Dark Knight Sparda". It also incurred a notorious reputation amongst demons and marked him an infamous traitor. A former general of Hell, he's been said to have stolen the names of and imprisoned of the anthromorphic representations of the Seven Sins and his sealed-off power equalled to that of a god.
Near the end of his known/recorded/rumoured life Sparda settled with a human wife, Eva, and fathered twin sons: Vergil and Dante. After his disappearance, a lot of Sparda's power remained concealed in the demon realm sealed inside his sword Force Edge AKA The Sparda -later retrieved by Dante. It is unknown as to how or if he died and there is in general a lot of confusion surrounding Sparda and whom he truly was. The cult organization called the Order of the Sword cast Sparda as a God-figure whom once ruled over their capital, Fortuna.
[+] Not too long after settling with wife and sons, movements by Hell forced Sparda to disappear in order to again save the world and this time also his family. Without his amulet he was as weak as he'd ever been and also now distracted by personal worries. Sparda vanished. The details of how/when/where remains fuzzy.
APPEARANCE & PERSON: General looks: Handsome, tall and broad-shouldered man with pure white hair and normally icy grey-blue eyes -but at a closer look the real eye color is in fact red. Usually clean-shaven but may brandish a neat small beard now and then. Likes to dress traditional and 'classy', such as 16th to early 20th century influences in suits, jackets, and never looking messy. Likes royal and Tyrian purple. As a trademark wears a coat jacket and might carry a straight walking staff/cane.
In Desai, Sparda goes by his regular name as a 'nickname' but upon questioning will refer to the pseudonym Jack Alescio DeAngelis; a sketchy but inconspicuous new world aristocrat with old ties and a whole lot of old money.
Sparda's private residence is an expensive little flat in Cordova. Meanwhile, DeAngelis is the current lord and master of Nascosto Court in Rituana. The full information regarding the obscured means and affairs how he got the old mansion will never reach the light of day, but as it is said a devil is best at rest by his own kind.
WEAPONS: Sparda's main choice of carry-on weapons are swords and guns. The straight staff/cane he is often seen carrying around is a cane sword and holds a narrow hidden blade. The weapon has neither name (though he sometimes calls it 'jack') nor special abilities but is simply forged to act as an extention to Sparda's own self when in battle. In addition, he has a pair of custom semi-automatic twin guns called
Obscuritas & Luminoso. They follow same style and function as his old pair (Luce&Oumbra).
POWERS: The bulk of Sparda's powers were sealed into his sword ForceEdge when two thousand years ago he locked the Temen-ni-gru. In spite of this he remains a powerful demon. Both because he isn't entirely powerless, and because he has had two millennia with Hell on his tail to perfect and make efficient the usage of his skills and remaining power.
His most obvious abilities and powers are physical endurance and regeneration, strength, speed and teleportation; combined with top-notch demonic senses. It also includes phantom summons and other demonic energy manipulation. On top of this he is a legendary swordsman and warrior capable of handling more or less all types of low-tech weapons. In short, most anything Dante & Vergil do by own force (at least in DMC3) Sparda has been doing in some variation for two thousand years.
Sparda's powers are described as that of "a god", and judging from that he supposedly more or less single-handedly orchestrated and executed the closed off Hell from the mortal plane and sealed it's ruler(s) the true extent of his powers is really unknown.
Sparda is at his strongest in his released devil form but prefers not to tap into this as this form makes it most evident he is not as strong as he used to be and the more powers he use the more he exhaust himself. NOTE: For the sake of this player/mun's sanity, said devil form does NOT look like an anorectic bug with goat feet, but rather something along the lines of DMC4's
devil trigger designs thankyou, with four or six wings. >8|
