SDC has given me great service for a couple of years now. Since Monday though my signal strength has gone through the floor. I got up on my roof to check out the antenna and discovered it is pointed right at the bright shiny corrugated expanse that is the roof of the new school. Grrrrr.

Wow.
Monday, I saw the new roof on my way to class and started thinking about that exact problem. Through any given property in that area there is a high probability of a high speed radio data link existing right overhead. I knew that somebody must have lost data service. I didn't think I would hear about it directly. Good luck solving your problem.

Time for DSL? It'd be cheaper and faster...

It would be faster. Cheaper depends on if Qwestionable doesn't take the opportunity to rape me again. Every time I have dealt with them they have found some way to louse things up in such a way that I end up paying more for my phone service than I did before. I now pay approximately twice for the same service that I got in 1999 when I moved here. Nonetheless it looks like I may now have no choice.

Well, there's always Starband, if you can tolerate outrageous latency.

I've got the Qwest DSL and I'm happy. Somebody suggested to somebody, I thought it was the raccoon commenting to Trista, but I can't find it; But, somebody said that you might be able to get it cheaper, if you go through qwest.net or something, but I have their regular MSN deal, except at 1500k (instead of the basic 250k) and I'd say that I'm happy. Though, my speeds usually only test around 1200k, but I've got no real complaints.

The problem isn't the technical end. It is the business office that is screwing me over. I seem to always have bad luck with them.

Dude - Here are the prices for their MSN package. I don't know about the possibly cheaper method that someone wrote about once, I've never heard anything else about it, but the MSN-package prices are published. (They gave me a modem with my package, but others have to pay a rental, so that could be extra)

Hmmm... Now that I look at that page, I might have to talk to the telemarketer the next time they call. I'd strongly consider going up a grade, if I could get the introductory offer. Right now, I don't qualify because I'm not "new", but maybe if I flirt a little with their commissioned salesperson; Who knows?

It isn't the DSL prices that I am worried about. It is my telephone service. Every time I have done anything to it my rates go up. I have a certain set of services that I require on my phone line. Qwestionable keeps rearranging their packages so it is more expensive to get that set of services. So long as I don't touch the account I am grandfathered in under the older plans. Every time I have made even the slightest change Qwestionable has taken that as an opportunity to gouge me for more money. As I said when I first came here my phone service cost me half what it does now. If I get DSL it will certainly go up again.
