Skip the telescreens and go directly to Room 101

It is reported that MP in charge of the program I reported on yesterday denies that anyone is putting CCTV into people's home. I've looked into it further and it seems that the wealth of reports trace back to a single newspaper article. The denial is made in an unverified Twitter feed. It's so difficult to get information on this side of the ( Read more... )

I'm proud of my antisocial behavior, and completely satisfied with calling the cops on my antisocial neighbors.

If these families are such that people around them keep their children inside from fear of them, there is constant intervention from a variety of authorities for everything from domestic violence to drug dealing to child abuse, and they are so dysfunctional and self-destructive that a steady stream of agencies has to devote time to make sure they don't kill themselves and the innocents around them, I think if I lived in their community I might be glad they were being taken of.

If they have committed a crime try them before a jury otherwise they should be left alone. These people's rights should not be violated on the whim of a bureaucrat and his personal prejudices. This is the essence of rule by law as opposed to rule by fiat.

That's exactly the issue: these people are already people who have been in legal trouble - justifiably so, apparently - many times. That is the only way to get into this kind of predicament.

This program is apparently designed to give options to the authorities other than throwing the perps in jail, their kids into the foster care system, and permanently wasting court time when traditional punishments do no good . Look - once people do their 15-45 days for the nth time for disturbing the peace, misdemeanor destruction of property, threatening their neighbors, neglecting children, etc., etc., what do you do? They are going to go right back to doing what they were doing before because they don't give a damn about themselves, their kids, or the people unfortunate enough to live near them. This program is not meant for people who play their stereo too loud on Saturday night, and have an occasional screaming fight on the front porch. This is for families that are (as the article says) out of control.

I haven't yet found a place on the web site that says it can only be imposed on those legally convicted. Rather it seems a vast array of things are classified as antisocial including deciding one wants more privacy than the next guy by growing your hedges higher than his. All I know is what I read on the government's website. As I said it does not inspire confidence.

America is planning to take over the programming of children who are overweight, have parents who smoke, or show conservative tendencies.

No smoking, no drinking, no violent sports, no red meat, this is a Zero Tolerance Nation and now, we are all footing the bill for your Pastrami on Rye.
