[today the dressing room is being greeted with a rare occasion, a definite change from the norm; filtering through the halls from some far-off room in the back of the West Wing is the distinct sound of Violin music. not piano -
violin, if a slightly less beefed up and more classical version

Have your double standing at the door, just listening with his eyes closed and a soft smile on his face, even with the mistakes.]

he lets out a sigh, and actually notices the other Allens shadow before he notices the boy himself; and he glances up at him, but doesn't stop playing, just giving the other a slightly inquisitive look despite him... not really being able to see it.]

Allen sees the inquiry and gives him a brief smile with a nod.]
You play well. It's an unusual song.

the comment gets a light chuckle out of him though, and Allen shakes his head. or at least, as much as he can while still playing.]
I can't say it's much of a song. It seems a bit more like one when I'm not having an off day, though.

[They're currently out of view where he is, but he can smell the remainders of the sweet liquor from the hall. It gives the young vampire even more reason to be worried about his other self, though his expression doesn't change much.]
It's better than what I can pull off on violin. [Bit of a joke.] And it's nice enough to listen to rather than the silent halls.

I don't think the violin is very popular anyway. Only one or two other street performers played it back home. [he offers a slight smile, pausing in the playing to shift a bit on the bed before picking up where he'd left off.] It can be kind of quiet, though. So maybe it's better than nothing. [he taps the violin case on the ground with his foot, shoes discarded somewhere else in the room.] Even if no one offers tips.

It's popular in the hills of Ireland still, rather hard to book gigs as a pianist in their dance halls. [Grin] I would tip, but all of my money was in a pack that got left at home.

Don't worry about it. I don't exactly need money here anyway, right?

True, could always toss in an IOU though and owe you a favor. [He's done it that way before.]
Reply
...okay. yes. laughing at that.] Have you actually done that? If I were back home I wouldn't take it seriously.

Once or twice, when I was going to be in a town for a while. Actually, they're quite handy when you need a place to sleep or some food.

[he shakes his head, looking more and more amused.] You must be another one from the 1800s. No one in my world would take an IOU in place of real cash.

Actually, more like late 1950s. [Grin] I travel a lot, so relying on others is how I get by.

[oh, but that gets a grin out of him. closest person he's met to his own time line! and, while he's used to not running into people from his world because he doesn't freaking talk to anyone there, it's still sort of nice to be from the same general time period as someone - even if it was off by about sixty years.] I do that too, but Americans are very stingy. It's easier to stay in one place and make money from the tourists.

You're from a time other than the 1800s like the others? [He hasn't run into many who are outside of that timezone himself. It's very odd.] Traveling over to Britain might work in your favor then, at least the Irish are hospitable. And they'll appreciate the violin. Tourists?
[He glances down the hall for a moment and then back at his double, a few seconds later a kitten tumbles into his legs and attempts to climb up his cloak.]

It's 2012 back home. [it is, isn't it? Allen's pretty sure that everyone he has met in the Dressing Room so far were from the 1800's, give or take a decade.]
There isn't enough time left in the world to save up for something like that. Besides, I don't have a passport. [he pauses, shrugging for a moment before finally setting his violin in its case.] Tourists will pay well if you either play well, or have something worth their sympathy. [he taps the bottom of his scar, then, before.... k-kitten. yes. staring. he hasn't seen a kitten in ages akjhgdajh such a soft spot for the little balls of fur.]
