I really respect John McCain. I respect his service. I respect his willingness to stand up to his own party when something he really cared about came up. And I understand that he was STOMPED on by the Bush campaign in 2000. I admit that the man has some serious issues, but he's a politician ( Read more... )

I have a policy of avoiding political news during a U.S. election- I am not a citizen of said country and my personal preference has no influence on the outcome. That and the antics that go on tend to encourage my depression and apathy (something I can't afford to let happen too much. I've been suicidal and don't want to ever go there again ( ... )

I feel about Obama as I did about Kerry: He can do the job, better than the other guy, even, but there has to be someone better. We should demand better.

I wish we didn't have the two party system. I wish we had a no party system where you actually have to have the support of the people, and not the system, to get this far.

I was thinking yesterday, while doing my best to avoid the election blow by blow and speculation, that a no-party system would be good. Though I do find myself wondering how it would, or could, work. I think the system in the U.S. would require less of an overhaul to implement such a system than the one in Canada would.

I firmly believe that no system of government is inherently better than the other, because it all boils down to who gets to hold the reins of power. (Which isn't always the same in reality as it is on paper.)
