Pandora Hearts vol. 2, Yen Press edition

May 28, 2010 15:56

I just unpacked it. :D It was published on May 18th; I pre-ordered it from Book Depository (due to outrageous exchange rates I couldn't afford Amazon), but it looks like Yen Press, all right. The volume is back up on BD's website. It went out of stock immediately after publication. Last weekend I was informed it was available, and today I found it ( Read more... )

Well, I'm not saying it's atrocious. ._. I guess it's average. I'm just disappointed because the paper in first volume of PH was the best and most pleasant to look at I've ever seen. ._.

Vol. 1 also could use some adjustments of spine vs covers, I didn't notice that earlier.

Oh no... why would they change the paper like that? For the price they charge, that's really a huge disappointment.

I saw an image of the "valet" page, though. It's very sweet that after ten years Gil still wants to park Oz's car for him.

...I probably shouldn't have laughed as hard as I did.

Indeed :( It actually never occurred to me that other volumes of the same series might be printed on different paper. And now that I compared the volumes more thoroughly, the cover of vol. 1 is whiter than the cover of vol. 2. I thought it's because BD copy arrived slightly dirty (- -), but the color is too uniform. Unless they kept it in the sun -_-

That's what's called real devotion :D

I can only guess that the word meaning is more like 'attendant', while Alice calls Oz simply her servant. 'Valet' is a proper word to use, but it just sounds funny after the scanlations. XD I'd prefer something like 'personal attendant' though, since it's kinda weird to mix the old vocabulary with Japanese honorifics instead of titles. xD

The carcarriage? xD parking jokes, they are never going to stop. XDDD

That's really odd and a shame the first volume was so HQ and they downgraded for volume 2. D:

Thanks for sharing. <3333

Exactly, I hope it's not because the first volume didn't sell well... Though if that was deliberate move by Yen Press it isn't nice either D:

Thank you for the review.
To tell the truth, I don't really like the English Edition. I bought volume 1 in English and decided to buy Japanese version for the rest (just got volume 4-7 today teheh ^^ <3), cuz I don't like the font and the translation.

But to tell the truth, I prefer yellowish paper. The Japanese edition use that kind of paper, which, IMHO is better for my eyes ^^ :P

Is the translation bad? Have you noticed many errors? o.o

I guess I prefer white paper because manga is like collector's edition for me :) I buy only titles that I really like or have already read as or both), so reading convenience isn't most important. Gawking and adoring is XD

The translation is not bad, to tell the truth I can hardly find any errors... But somehow I just feel the conversation is not natural, well it's just me.

And surprisingly your habit of collecting your favourite manga is the same as me !!<3. I always choose the series I love most and collect almost everything about it. Now that I think about it, maybe I love the original more because of the slip cover and the omake on the inside cover which are not available in the English edition, if I'm not mistaken... :P

Hmm... There are some places where the conversation feels awkward, mainly in the relaxed every-day talk, I think... o.o I blamed it on colloquial style. o.o;

Slip cover?! D: There are no omakes on the cover. There is only maid drama omake at the end and after it Mochizuki's moustache cat.

♥! Though my shopping sprees are much limited by budget available, unfortunately ._.
