Thoreau remarked that the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation. And Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, better known for legal prose that poetry, lamented,

Alas for those that never sing,
But die with all their music in them.

Casey, I know you crave something more than what you've experienced thus far. While I can't specifically agree that your life should be viewed as dissatisfying up to this point, I can say that it's a healthy mood NOT to be satisfied, to strive for better. (Complacency is one of my flaws.)

You will get to sing your song; you will not die with your music left inside you.

I would hate to suggest my life has been entirely unsatisfying. Clearly I've had highs and lows to this point. I will never let myself feel like my life has been empty or meaningless. All the same I will never let myself feel like I've achieved all I can, or learned all that I can learn, or love all that I can love.

Most of these thoughts reflect the hardships of the last two years. Graduating from college. The slow loss of Leah. Gaining and losing a dream job. Getting laid off. The diminishing want ads. Chesney.

It seems like I can almost pinpoint a time in my life when I realized that life was about to get difficult and ever since I've been waiting for the page to turn. When I was listening to the fanfare today I was impressed by the message and felt like it was a message I needed to champion.
