1) AdBlock Plus 2) FasterFox - Performance and network tweaks 3) Foxmarks - great bookmark sync - I can access my bookmarks from anywhere 4) Download Statusbar - puts downloads at the bottom of the browser instead of a separate window for easy viewing 5) LJ Hook - an LJ specific extension that puts LJ options like cut and user in a right click menu for easy access 6) StumbleUpon - just freakin' awesome random site thingy 7) TrackMeNot - prevents data profiling by search engines
It can be kind of addicting...it goes in ebbs for me. But I don't have a lot of the other addictions that some people have (WoW or other games and the like).
Here are (some of) the ones I use. The more stars, the more often I use them or just generally love them.
AI Roboform for Firefox. An extension, yes, but sadly not free. Double security for saving/remembering/entering passwords on sites. **********
CookieCuller. Saves and/or deletes my cookies as I desire. **********
Download Statusbar. Um, lets me see my downloads in my status bar. ****
Firefox Google Bookmarks. Lets me create/edit/access my Google bookmarks. *****
Gmail Manager. Lets me check all my gmails for new mail, without having to actually log in to each one.********
Google toolbar for Firefox. Just what it sounds like. ********
Link Alert. Changes the cursor to indicate what type of link you're about to click on. Yeah, I could look at the status bar, but I've clicked on pdf files one too many times. ********
Scrapbook. Helps me to save web pages to "scrapbooks" on my computer. *********************************************************************
I just started using Greasemonkey so that I can see my Google reader feeds in my gmail window. I can remember to go to Google Reader much better if I see it in my "folders" list in gmail.
Open Notebook is freaking awesome, you can highlight something in a site, and one of the right-click options is to send that text to Open Notebook. I use it constantly now.
Probably others but I have new coral in just now so I need to go tend to it, if I remember them I'll post 'em later :)
Gosh, I wish they'd let me download Firefox to my computer at work. It's more than a little awkward, though, being that Microsoft is just down the street from me. Besides, as part of my job, I send people there to work, and they're our biggest client. I sure love Firefox and hate I.E., though!
Oh, I love FF add-ons! I work as a web programmer, so FireBug and Add N Edit Cookies are pretty much required.
I also have Extended Statusbar, which provides extra information about the page you're loading; Flashblock, which rules; Tab Counter, which seems entirely too simple, but can be useful information; and Undo Closed Tabs Button, which lets you re-open a tab you may have closed by mistake.
I will say, I think the TrackMeNot one is a waste of bandwidth and CPU power, both yours and Google's. They don't care what you're searching for anyway. If you're worried about protecting your online privacy, there are a lot of other threats that are more threatening. If that makes sense.
