I used to hate football. Ball goes up the pitch, I thought, ball goes down the pitch. Sweaty men kick ball. Supporters punch in each in face. Big deal. Why do people get so excited? Then I started doing the first aid at Leyton Orient, and I realised I was seeing it all the wrong way. Forget all this stuff with the ball. The ball is a red ( Read more... )

Are Italy any better than England? Anyway, bollocks to you people who have weekends at the weekend and can have barbecues. I hate you all.

The only football I have liked was the "Car Football" they had on Top Gear recently... that was so funny, they should have that is stead of this silly world cup stuff. Still, one good thing about there being a lot of football on tv atm, the roads are clearer and you can actually go shopping without masses of ppl about.

I still dont't get it though. Football is just boring imho. :)

At last someone has explained football to me in a way that I understand and makes sense. Only taken, what, decades?

:-)

There is one last recourse for a team if all their players have fallen over and the other team has the ball. This is called the Offside Rule. All their players must run back towards their goal as fast as they can. If they get away from the opposing player and the ball, leaving him all alone at the top of the pitch, the referee blows his whistle, the ball goes back to the middle and all the supporters shout bad words.

Actually, the players have to run away from their own goal for the Offside Rule to work. Which may or may not go towards explaining why the Offside Rule is so stupid. :-)

Wondrous, now if only someone would do the same for Cricket it would make explaining British colonial culture that much easier.
