I got lazy about updating. It didn't help that the Georgetown newspaper that did a front page feature story on our dig doesn't have a webpage. Last time checked, it was 2005. Baby, it's cold outside!
Right now it's 28 degrees outside, with a wind chill of 15. There's snow or freezing rain blowing in the wind. So we left work a couple of hours early. We still did 6 hours, even though it was pouring rain for a while this morning. That was actually the worst part of the day. Cold sucks, but being wet is worse. Guess who has a rash again
So I've definitely earned my call name "Lucky." See, it's like calling a huge dude "Tiny." This time, I'm having some crazy allergic reaction to something I ate, or at least that's the prevailing theory. So apparently someone broke into our storage unit at the site over the weekend. They didn't take anything. I guess a bunch of buckets, shovels and picks weren't gonna buy enough crack or meth to carry the stuff up the hill. Data recovery, coming right up!
Georgetown data recovery has been fast-tracked and will start next month.* Slated to run from the middle of November through the end of January. This project is 2/3 as large as the Kerrville data recovery project, which lasted about the same amount of time. Still slackin'
Been back from Buffalo Gap since Sunday evening. Cut short by a day due to access issues. No go-ahead from the landowner means no go on the land! We still covered 90% of the area. I think we were all also a little hot and tired of bugs and camping. Our plan to get a hotel was foiled by people fleeing from Hurricane Rita. That was the only effect ( Read more... ) -
Camping in the field
Tomorrow we leave for a 7 day in Buffalo Gap, which is about 5 hours to the NW of Austin. What makes this survey different is that we will be camping for most if not all of the trip.
