Bush is an Idiot

I find Bush's reasons for deciding to veto the Stem-Cell Research bill laughable. Really, laughable. He does not want to destroy life for science, since embryos are considered a life by him... even though they're aborted fetuses ( Read more... )

Well, these are aborted fetuses, but instead they're eggs that were fertilized for IVF and the couples have decided they don't want/need them any longer. They would otherwise be tossed (under normal circumstances) which is much like an abortion, so it would be "toss and get nothing from them" or "get potential life-saving cures from them". The mischaracterization here is that the pro-lifers make it sound like these are eggs that would eventually be implanted, but are instead being "sacrificed" to create stem-cells. The "Snowflake Kids" who were there when Bush vetoed the bill were meant to illustrate this, since they're the result of people "adopting" unwanted IVF embryoes and having them implanted. It's still twisting the reality, just wanted to clarify something that seemed to be off in what you stated ( ... )

Well, then the two articles that I read were incorrect. They all said that they were aborted materials - in fact, I believe I have even heard that on the news a few times. In any event, I still stand by the fact that they aren't being used and have potential to help others and that Bush's "values" are really just bullshit that he's pulling out of his ass before elections.

And thank you for the clarification. Perhaps me reading this stuff super early in the morning had something to do with it.

No problems. I understand, since my brain doesn't function well for the hour or two that I'm awake.

It's a great pity Bush doesn't want to support stem-cell reseearch. He would obviously wish to protect "unborn fetuses" over those of people currently alive, contributing to society, and suffering from incurable diseases like Parkison's whose lives may change for the better if more funding was poured into the research.

OTOH, other countries not plagued with Bush's wondrous ideals are working really hard on stem-cell research (eg Singapore) but advancement would not be as significant if US involvement continues to be so heavily retarded by the President.
