I am doing a news report for my school's news program. This required me interviewing several individuals on National Women's History Month. I think that the month is important for contemporary times, because most individuals are not taught about females that have made a significant impact on history. We are not taught about Alice Paul, Ida B Wells ( Read more... )

I didn't even know there WAS a Women's History Month!

. . . And I think most women consider Oprah to be their role model. I mean, she's cool and all, but it seems a little unfair.

I read the other comments to this post, and it helped me remember some other women's role models. I was just saying that girls today look up to Oprah and Angelina Jolie. We're taught all about Lincoln and Caesar and Shakespeare, and the only women I REALLY remember from history classes are Princess Diana and Joan of Arc. I don't know, I guess I just think it's sad that most girls look up to Oprah. Nothing wrong with Oprah, of course (if I could I would be her). :D

I know Elizabeth Blackwell and Abigail Adams. I know the name Lucretia Mott, but don't know what she did that makes her famous. And look at how Susan B. Anthony is already off the dollar coin, and Sacagawea is being minimized while the presidents are being put on the dollar.

A name you didn't mention, and one that is (or was, it may be closed now) on a Cleveland Public high school is Jane Addams. A lot of people don't remember her anymore, and I know we had her story drilled into us when I was in school.

Jane Addams was definitely cool, but I was just listing names out of frustration. I couldn't list them all. Lucretia Mott played a big role in the women's suffrage movement.

I forgot, because I haven't been following the dates very closely recently. I only realised yesterday was International Women's Day when a classmate raved about how some company was giving away free sanitary pads...

btw, if you read the date for IWD (March 8, 3-8) in Mandarin, san ba, it means bitch. =3 Coincidence?
