The image of Redd’s white living room disappeared into blackness, and Eeben sat back, rubbing a hand over the short bristles of his hair with a sigh. He pondered with numb amazement how he could have ever thought it was a good idea to have called Redd up in the first place. His judgment must have been dulled by the looming events of tonight; the looming events themselves much have made him feel the need for at least something bright and hopeful and comforting. He knew firsthand of how important those things were to maintaining any sense of sanity in this business, especially in a bleak world like this one.
But he also knew that dwelling on anything for too long only made it increasingly problematic. Setting his hands on his desk with a sense of resolve, he pushed his chair back and stood, determined to move on with the night.
With a swift motion of his hand, he pressed the comlink button imbedded into the broad decorations of prestige and service across his right chest, all his stripes and stars and banners. “Mari,” he said over the tinkling beeps of activation, striding toward the door, “I’m finished; send up a shuttle to-“
“Oh, Captain Rynt!” The sound of his secretary’s voice cut in hurriedly, but it was all but swallowed by the swishing of the opening door. “Wait!”
It was too late, though. Eeben had already paraded through the door into the reception area before Mari’s warning had the time to process. He could, however, see immediately why she had tried. She sent him a distressed, deeply apologetic look before settling back down into her chair with a fixed smile toward their guest, who looked up when the doors shut behind Eeben, the shush of them closing seeming so much quieter than when they opened. The light caught eerily on the man’s round glasses, illuminating them and disguising his eyes unnaturally.

I lied. One more after this section, because I didn't realize Day 15 was so...scant. It's a damn good think that Day 16 hopefully makes up for some of it. And we're back to the ploooooot. That helps tooooooo, I'm sure. XD
