The A.F.A. is made of lies.

It bothers me to no end that religious organizations will deliberately distort the truth to trick their followers into blindly voting against. In case you're not familiar with the AFA, they are a evangelical christian organization that appear, at least from their press releases, to have the following primary tenants ( Read more... )

Awesome! :D

I mean, not that I think it will actually change their minds or anything, but at least someone there will be forced to reckon with their own cognitive dissonance for a few moments.

I called "the gathering storm" anti-gay marriage people awhile back, when those ads were still running, and gave them a piece of my mind.

I dunno I might be with the A.F.A this time, their idea of protecting "deeply held belief's" in imaginary thing's could serve us all very well. If ever I was a boss I could selectively fire/not hire anyone associated with a religous organization, stateing that "My deeply held belief that my half eaten peice of toast is the supreme ruler of the universe and its against his code to associate with other religion's, such a bill would prohibit me from taking this deeply held belief into account when making desicion's"

You should say first that AFA means American Family Association before giving the acronym.

I'll bet you neglected to include the last part of their letter in which they ask for donations from their sheeple to help them fight this evil.

The most basic fact that they just can't get into their closed minds is that "making it illegal to fire, refuse to hire or refuse to promote employees simply based on a person's sexual orientation or gender identity" protects everybody - not just LGBTs. It would be just as illegal for me to discriminate against someone in my group who is straight as it would be for a straight person to discriminate against me because I'm gay. Of course, to offer a rebuttal to this point would be tantamount to admitting that gay people would never discriminate against straights, only straights discriminate against gays ( ... )

This bill does need to pass. It will give all 50 states this law. A similar passed in a town in Alaska by a vote of 7-4 but the mayor vetoed it saying that discrimination like this just doesn't happen.

I can attest that when this law in Illinois passed I felt so much comfortable being out at work. I can imagine how gay people in states like Alabama and Arkansas must feel.
